Walnut Creek Mini Bus

Walnut Creek Mini Bus is a 6-passenger city vehicle. The Mini Bus is helpful for people who do not use rideshare services.

Mini Bus drivers provide rides to locations only in Walnut Creek on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from our first pick up starting at 9 am and our last pick up scheduled at 2 pm (see below for how to schedule a Mini Bus ride).

Mini Bus Program Eligibility

To use the Walnut Creek Mini Bus, you must be:

• A Walnut Creek resident
• 60+ years of age
• Adult 18+ (with a disability/ health condition that prevents using regular transportation)
• Must have your own mobile phone and a valid email address
• Comfortable boarding vehicles (including SUVs and vans) without driver's assistance. If you need help to board or exit the vehicle, an aide or caretaker is required to ride with you to provide assistance. Caretaker must be 18+ years of age and sign a waiver before riding.
• Riders pay a fare for each ride, and must have a valid credit card on file

Schedule a ride

To schedule a ride with the Mini Bus, call the reservation line at (925) 256-3533 between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., two to seven business days before the ride needed. For example, calls should be made on Fridays for Tuesday rides and calls for Thursday should be made by Tuesday.

Please make sure to leave a voice message if you do not reach a dispatcher. Rides are not set until a dispatcher speaks with you and confirms the schedule. For a ride the day after a holiday, call us on the last business day before the holiday.

Here is the information we need:

• Let us know if this ride is one way or round trip
• First ride: Pick-up time, Pick address and Drop- off address
• Second ride: Pick up time, Pick-up address and Drop- off address
• Any notes for the driver

Sample ride reservation:

Ride 1: Pick up from home at 10:10am, drop off at Civic Park Community Center.
Ride 2: Pick up from Civic Park Community Center at 1:30pm, drop off at Home.
Notes: Has a walker and will need to store it in the trunk.

Cost

• $60 annual membership fee (valid July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027)
• The fare for a one-way trip is $2, or $4 for a round-trip
• Member must have a valid credit card on file
• Your credit card will be charged automatically once your ride is completed

Rules and Policies

• All riders must meet eligibility requirements.
• 1 Round trip ride per day (Rides are available based on driver availability)
• All riders must self-evaluate their health before their ride. Cancel the ride if you feel fever or flu symptoms.
• Service animals are welcome, as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Mini Bus is not wheelchair accessible. Foldable wheelchairs are accepted, rider must have a caretaker with them to assist with wheelchair and helping rider in and out of the vehicle.
• You must make your reservations 2-7 business days before your ride. Call to make reservations between 9:00am to 10:00am.
• The Mini Bus closes when extreme weather prevents a safe driving environment.
• Riders must cancel their ride at least 1 business day in advance, if needed
• Must be comfortable boarding vehicles (including SUVs and vans) without driver's assistance.
• If you need help to board or exit the vehicle, a caretaker is required to ride with you to provide assistance. Caretaker must be 18+ years of age and sign a waiver before riding.

Lyft Self Access Pass

The City of Walnut Creek funds Lyft rides to expand its transportation services. With a Lyft Self Access Pass, you can arrange Lyft rides using your computer or smartphone. Drivers use their personal vehicles to transport riders.

Eligibility

To use the Lyft Self Access Pass, you must:

• Must have your own smartphone that can access to the Lyft App and be able to schedule rides on your own.
• Have a valid email address
• Be 60+ years of age or be an 18+ individual with disabilities and be unable to use public transportation or drive a car.
• Be a resident of Walnut Creek, Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill or Martinez.
• Be comfortable boarding vehicles (including SUVs and vans) without help. 

We may request medical or DMV documentation.

Cost and Application Details

There is a $60 annual membership fee for a Lyft Self Access Pass (valid July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027). Once you have completed your application and paid the fee, you will receive 10 one-way rides per month in the Lyft app. (Total of 5 round trips per month).

• You must complete applications for this service online. If you do not have access to a computer, or if you need help, visit us in person to fill out our online application. Our address is 1375 Civic Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94596.
• You can pay for the service by phone. Call (925) 256-3533 Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We accept Visa, MasterCard, cash and checks. You may also visit us in person to complete the application and pay the fee.
• You must notify us of any billing issues and help resolve the situation. We cannot be responsible for charged amounts older than 7 business days.

You pay the first $5 of each ride. The City of Walnut Creek will cover up to $10 per ride. After $10 is applied, you are responsible for additional charges for any ride that is more than $15. The Lyft Self-Access Pass has built in accounting, so transactions and billing occur in the app.

Schedule trips daily between 8:00am and 9:00pm within Walnut Creek, Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill and Martinez.

Keep in mind: Lyft drivers are not required to assist passengers or help with moving their belongings in and out of vehicles.

Lyft Concierge Pass

Use the Lyft Concierge Pass to schedule rides to appointments and activities. Rides are not scheduled through your Lyft App. Instead, you call a reservation line and a dispatcher schedules your rides for you.

Eligibility

• The Lyft Concierge Pass is for people ages 70+ who have disabilities or health conditions and are unable to schedule rides through the Lyft App
• This service is also available to people ages 18+ with disabilities
• Residents of Walnut Creek, Concord, Pleasant Hill, Clayton and Martinez are eligible to use this service.
• This service is designed for people who cannot use public transportation or drive a car
• We may request documentation to determine eligibility
• Must have your own mobile phone and a valid email address
• Riders pay a portion of each ride, and must have a valid credit card on file
• Must be comfortable boarding vehicles (including SUVs and vans) without driver's assistance. If you need help to board or exit the vehicle, an aide or caretaker is required to ride with you to provide assistance. Caretaker must be 18+ years of age and sign a waiver before riding.
• Please note: Limited space available for this membership. An interview will be conducted by staff to determine your eligibility. 

Cost

• $60 annual membership fee (valid July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027)
• Member receives 10 one-way rides per month (total of 5 round trips per month)
• Member pays $5 for each one-way ride when the origin and destination locations are both within the same city, and $10 for each one-way ride if the origin and destination locations are in different cities
• Member must have valid credit card on file
• Your credit card will be charged automatically once your ride is completed

Making a reservation

• The reservation line is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 10am. Call (925) 256-3533 to reserve your ride. Rides are not set until a dispatcher speaks with you and confirms the schedule.
• With the Lyft Concierge Pass, you can take rides anywhere within Walnut Creek, Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill and Martinez.
• You must reserve your ride 2 - 7 business days in advance.
• Provide the exact locations and times for pick-up and return when you reserve a ride. Give the dispatcher any necessary gate codes, building names, or building numbers.

Keep in mind: Allow up to 30 minutes leeway after scheduled ride time for pick-up. This allows for traffic and weather.

If you need to cancel a ride, call the reservation line at least one day before by 10 a.m. To cancel a Monday or weekend ride, call the reservation line on Friday.

In the unlikely event that your driver does not arrive, you will need to arrange alternative transportation. You will be responsible for paying for alternative transportation.

Lyft drivers are not required to assist passengers or help with moving their belongings in and out of vehicles. If passengers can no longer safely use our program, City staff will notify the passenger and their family and refer them to the County Connection Link program.

Safety

All passengers must wear seat belts. If you don’t wear a seat belt, both you and the driver may receive a ticket from law enforcement. We recommend that passengers wear masks in the vehicle.

When waiting for your Lyft ride, please stay in a safe, well-lit area where you can be seen by the driver.

Code of Conduct

We reserve the right to suspend or discontinue accounts if we become aware of suspicious activity or misconduct. This includes booking rides for someone other than the registered transportation member, frequent ride cancellations or no shows, or excessive ride scheduling.

Call 911 in the event of an emergency. Lyft is not a replacement for an ambulance. Do not use it as a means of emergency transport.

Lyft is not a paratransit service provider.
