Walnut Creek Intermediate

About the Program at WCI

The After School Sports Program at Walnut Creek Intermediate is offered through the City of Walnut Creek’s Recreation Department. The program is designed to provide opportunities for students to participate in sports while enrolled as a student at WCI or Tice Creek School.

Our program allows students an opportunity to acquire and practice new skills, make new friends, learn, and model good sportsmanship, and to compete. Boys/Girls/Co-ed competitive teams, intramural teams, and training blocks are offered.

More sessions. More athletes. More opportunities. WCI After School Sports is growing bigger and better every year!

We’re thrilled to be back on campus at Walnut Creek Intermediate offering another exciting year of After School Sports! Last season, nearly 400 students participated across 18 different programs — and this year, we’re building on that momentum!

With exciting options like Flag Football, Beach Volleyball, and Cross Country, there are more opportunities than ever for WCI students to:

  • Stay active in a safe, structured environment right after school

  • Make new friends and build meaningful connections

  • Develop social, emotional, and physical skills that last beyond the season

  • Learn life lessons through sports that extend well past the court or field

Our programs are designed for all skill levels:

  • Intramural Programs — Perfect for beginners or those who want a fun, social, and supportive atmosphere

  • Competitive Teams — Designed for experienced athletes ready to be challenged and grow in their sport

Parent Feedback and Testimonials

As our After School Sports program continues to grow, we’ve placed a strong emphasis on listening to our families. Parent feedback helps us refine our programs, celebrate what’s working, and ensure we’re creating the best possible experience for our athletes.

Out of 19 responses from the 2023–2024 season, families rated our program an average 4.33 out of 5.

Out of 47 responses from the 2024–2025 season, that score rose to 4.4 out of 5.

This upward trend reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and the trust families have in our program.

Here’s what a few parents had to say:

“My child really enjoyed representing her school on two competing team. The staff and organization was excellent, it’s a great program for kids who already play competing sports and for those newer to compete sports. She would participate year round if it was available."

“My daughter learned more skills and made friendships with people who enjoy reactional and competitive sports and enjoyed the exercise and structure of the events and practices. Please keep them going! She's bored without them!

"My child really enjoyed the experience. His self confidence and skills increased tremendously. He loved it."

"The after school sports intramural program is fantastic. My son loves to be able to compete and hang out in a positive environment with kids from school after a hectic day where they otherwise don't have in time to socialize."
