Adaptive and Inclusive Camps

Specialized Summer Fun!

The City of Walnut Creek offers specialized summer camps for participants with developmental and intellectual disabilities ages 5 to 22. Our camp counselors are trained in positive behavior support, strength-based approaches, and adapted activity facilitation to create fun, safe, and age-appropriate activities for campers. Camp groups are comprised based on age and each group is provided their own space to engage in developmentally appropriate activities. These activities are structured to encourage positive interactions with peers while promoting social skills, independence, physical fitness, personal safety, emotional well-being, and community integration.

Depending on their age, campers are supervised at either a 3:1, 4:1, or 5:1 ratio. If a camper requires a higher level of support with eating, toileting, or behavior management they must attend camp with an aide. The City of Walnut Creek does not provide 1:1 aides for registered participants. Learn more about our aide and safety protocols.
