Lisa Kokin, one of the featured artists in Stitched: Contemporary Embroidery, was recently invited by The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) to participate in their monthly series, The Four Questions. In the interview, Kokin shares insights about her artistic journey, her innovative series Bookscrapping, and her deep connection to The CJM.
Kokin’s Bookscrapping series reflects her passion for turning incomplete or discarded pieces into fiber-based artist books with dynamic and tactile qualities. These interactive works encourage viewers to interpret the imagery as they turn the pages, merging storytelling with fiber art.
In the interview, Kokin also reflects on her inspirations, including materials found during the pandemic, and shares her favorite Jewish food tradition—bagels, which she fondly recalls from childhood.
