On View: Artwork by Laura Gibson

On view now through August

Walnut Creek City Hall - City Manager's Office

Artist Laura Gibson's work is built through layers of collage, paint, graphite, maps, handwritten notes, and fragments collected over time. Gibson covers these materials completely, then uncovers the surface using various methods to review hidden passages. The process mirrors memory itself - moments becoming buried, altered, rediscovered, and reinterpreted over time. Gibson is inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi and drawn to the beautify found in impermanence, weathering, and the marks left behind through living.

Gibson's work invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and discover their own stories within the layers - much like the way memories surface over time, incomplete yet meaningful.

Laura Gibson is a Walnut Creek-based mixed media artist whose work explores memory, place, and impermanence.

Artwork can be viewed by appointment with Arts & Rec. Select artwork from our exhibitions may be available for purchase. If you are interested in viewing or purchasing artwork, please contact Monica Logan, A+R Executive Assistant at logan@walnut-creek.org or by phone at (925) 943-5848.
